Trama | Plastic Fisherman is an educational global project born in South Florida that uses social media and art to call attention to the dangers of marine plastic pollution. Leveraging Instagram's visual power and an 'act local, think global' mindset, it invites action through creativity, turning beach cleanups into a playful activity we named #plasticfishing. With more than 10,000 "catches" coming from all over the planet, Plastic Fisherman has grown from a local presence to a global footprint, with local Instagram accounts now in Germany, Brazil, Japan, Spain, Uruguay, and Mauritius Island. Plastic fishing has also been taken from the beach into classrooms to help young people understand how their behavior contributes to marine plastic pollution and how marine plastic pollution, in return, could affect them. Our mission is to turn as many people as possible into plastic fishermen and women themselves with a simple message: The ocean is for fish, not plastic. |
