When initially approached to create the two films, the ambition was to create one world of epic scale and another which had genuine human warmth and personality. That was what would define the project for us - this duel process of beautiful environments and lovable, familiar characters.
The key for us was making the design process not only useful but usable. Our designers created these beautiful illustrations that, instead of being simply concept drawings, would become living, breathing environments in their own right. Similarly, with the characters, we had to find a modelling and texturing style that really efficiently and faithfully translated those designs. What resulted was a really playful, lovable group of personalities who were stylised and simplified in geometry.
After a few weeks of production we were finally ready to combine these two processes by dropping our cast onto the cliff top with athletes and everyday folk standing shoulder to shoulder. For us, it’s not only the shot that captures the core message of the campaign but it's also the perfect example of those two original tonal references working in synthesis - epic scale with human warmth.
