New Tools for School

So it’s time once again to start stashing away our summer toys and thinking about more serious matters – such as education. But the digital world doesn’t need a holiday, and there are many tools and projects that promote learning.

Let’s start with an ad for the iPad – from Australia – that turns a classroom into a world of colour and fun. We could no doubt have an interesting discussion about whether kids should be allowed digital devices during lessons, but the argument here is pretty convincing.

Not to be left behind, HP suggests that even a humble printer can add a touch of magic to the learning experience, via this animated tale from Goodby Silverstein & Partners.

Of course, learning should last a lifetime. For example, you may want to add a bit of spice to the new season by starting to learn a language. In Brazil, online language school Duolingo found a dramatic way of reaching out to students whose enthusiasm had waned a little.

Some of us take language for granted – but what about children who are born deaf or hard-of-hearing? This app helps parents learn sign language in a fun and intuitive way.

Teaching can take many forms – including educating people to adopt safe driving habits. “Slow Down Songs” is a simple and smart idea from the Australian Road Safety Foundation and Brother & Co.

Last year, when many of us were stuck at home, home schooling presented a number of challenges. In the Philippines, McDonald’s and Leo Burnett found a potential solution.

As home schooling continued to overturn lives, Havas London and the UK’s Department of Education teamed up with kids and parents to thank teachers. The result is touching, authentic and amusing.

Here in 2021, it looks as if many schools will be open as normal. Not in the mood for going back? We’ve got just the motivation for you, thanks to Impero and the George line of clothing. These kids are cool – but not too cool for school.
