Slogan Freedom Dictionary
Trama Over a year has passed since the beginning of protests in Middle East and North Africa, and severe human rights abuse still endures. There is no respect for freedom of speech. Protesters are being censored by their governments. Internet access is being blocked in these countries. And without words, there can be no revolution. Therefore, to mark a Global Day of Action on Revolutions in Middle East and North Africa, Amnesty International Portugal is giving these protesters a voice, setting their words free and amplifying their message through social media networks. We're launching the Freedom Dictionary project, a collective dictionary that holds 155 thousand words. These words will be set free by people, through the internet.
To take part in this project, just go to www.freedomdictionary.org, choose a word and share using social media networks. The chosen word will bear the name of the person who released it, crediting those who choose to participate. On World Press Freedom Day, 11 copies of the dictionary will be printed and mailed to eleven countries where revolutions are taking place. The names of the people who released the words will also be featured on the printed version. Words that are not released will not be printed in the dictionary, being replaced by a blank space.
Filosofia To give people a voice, something had to be done. So, the Freedom Dictionary was created.
Problema Northern African and Middle Eastern coutries don't have, still, freedom of speech despite the political revolutions from the past year.
Risultato Over 30.000 words we're released in the first weeks, and hundreds of thousands of shares in social media networks gave the power this stunt needed. Did the news in Portugal and a little all over the world. It reached out to Richard Falk, UN Rapporteur to the Human Rights.
