Trama The United Ukrainian Ballet brought a performance of ‘Giselle’ to London, but 3 weeks before opening night, less than a quarter of tickets had been sold. Defiant Dancer is an art installation, recreating the defences seen around monuments across Ukraine, but protecting a living Ukrainian ballerina. Christina Shevchencko performed outside the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, atop 1600 sandbags. Media coverage from Defiant Dancer brought their story to millions. Every performance sold out. The United Ukrainian Ballet was subsequently booked for a five month international tour.
