On October 11, International Day of the Girl, popular Colombian teen beverage Pony Malta and its agency MullenLowe SSP3 transformed young women into female icons of empowerment. The key was one of TikTok’s most popular features: dubbing. Users could select audio files with extracts of speeches from the likes of Michelle Obama, Malala Yousafzai and Ruth Bader Ginsberg, and literally speak in the voices of these legendary women. From popular influencers to everyday fans, the girls used their lip-synched videos to inspire, inform and empower. Because why be an influencer, when you can be an icon?
